How to Hang a Bathroom Mirror

Hanging a bathroom mirror is not complicated, but it is important to hang the mirror properly to avoid the danger it falling and breaking. Having a mirror in your bathroom has many advantages; you can apply your makeup properly, avoid missing spots when shaving and check your teeth after a meal to make sure no bits of food remain. Follow these steps to properly hang a bathroom mirror.

  1. First: Placement

Decide where you want your new bathroom mirror to hang. Choose a spot near the sink where you can easily see your reflection when standing. Clean the section of wall where you plan to hang the mirror, then let it dry. Once you hang the mirror, it is difficult to clean that area afterwards.

  2. Second: Determine what adhesive to use

If your new mirror is framed, you can use a nail or picture hanger to hang the mirror. If your mirror is not framed, and most bathroom mirrors are not, then you need to use adhesive. Liquid nails is a commonly available adhesive that is strong enough to keep the mirror on the wall and does not desilver it. There are also several brands of adhesive especially designed for hanging mirrors; some come in a tube and others are adhesive strips. Your local home improvement store should have these adhesives available, and if you live in a rural area, look for adhesives online. Popular online retailers that carry mirror adhesives include Amazon.com and HomeDepot.com.

  3. Third: Hang the mirror

When hanging a framed mirror, use a hammer to pound the nail into the wall at a slight angle. The nail should stick out of the wall enough to catch on the frame. Hang the framed mirror on the nail, then adjust for straightness. When hanging a mirror without a frame, apply the adhesive to the back of the mirror. Placement of the adhesive at each of the four corners is sufficient, though you can add a bit of adhesive in the middle if you wish. Place the mirror on the wall carefully, and check that it is straight. It is helpful to have someone with you, standing back a bit to guide you.
